It has been over three years since Steorn first made their public splash by putting an ad in The Economist, challenging the scientific community to test their free energy claims. Since that time there have been two very public setbacks: first, a failed demonstration of their technology in July, 2007, and more recently a statement from the jury that Steorn recruited which stated that Steorn failed to free energy technology to them.

It is hardly surprising that many observers are skeptical about Steorn’s claims.

Have the company crept off the scene, tail between their legs in disgrace, hoping that people would forget about them? Actually they have not. In February of this year  Steorn launched a new web site where some very bold claims about their technology continue to be made. Here are some examples from the site of what they say.

  • “Orbo technology represents a revolution for energy production and use. It offers a convenient, clean and constant supply of energy at the point of use.”
  • “Orbo is controversial – science tells us that energy can not be created – yet Orbo does this. Orbo is an over unity technology – it provides more energy out than is put in.”
  • “Every aspect of society from finance, economics and business to education, science and politics will have to adjust to the new opportunities being created by Orbo technology.”

These are very bold statements indeed which seem incredible to many, especially considering the public setbacks mentioned above. On numerous occasions Steorn CEO Sean McCarthy has said that the public launch of orbo will take place this year – 2009. The stakes are certainly high for the company, and the eyes of many people – both supporters and detractors – are on Steorn and will be carefully watching their progress as this year closes.
