Steorn’s demonstration to ‘prove overunity’ took place as scheduled and was broadcast via live streaming video. The video of the demo has not yet been loaded onto Steorn’s website or Youtube channel, but I would expect that would happen fairly soon.
In the meantime, here are a couple of links to reports that other bloggers have posted about the demo:
We live in a day of media saturation — 24/7 discussion of all kinds things ranging from politics to technology to celebrity gossip. This week the attention of the media has been focused on (among other things) President Obama’s State of the Union Address, Apple’s reveal of the iPad, the ongoing efforts to bring relief in Haiti, economic woes worldwide, and so on.
Could it be, however, that one of the most important stories of our age is being largely ignored? Steorn has announced that this Saturday they will be providing proof of overunity. For years they have claimed that they have figured out a way to create energy “from no apparent source” using magnetic interactions. They have promised that the day would come when they would reveal proof of this claim to the world and then launch their technology commercially, licensing their Orbo technology to product developers.
Well, the time has finally come. This Saturday at 4:00 p.m. in Dublin, Ireland, Steorn says they will be showing the the world proof of their claims. They apparently will demonstrat that more electrical energy will be produced by an Orbo device than is input.
If this is true, then we would be looking at a world changing event on Saturday, as no one has demonstrated overunity before, and conventional science says this is impossible. What would overunity technology mean for our world? Simply put, Steorn’s discovery could put an end to all the energy concerns that trouble us today. And beyond that, free energy would have a revolutionary economic and social impact that could lead to a completely different society. See here for a previous post that discusses these issues in more depth.
How many people will tune in to Steorn on Saturday? Probably a miniscule amount compared to those who watched the State of the Union Address, or Steve Job’s presentation yesterday. But if Steorn shows the real deal on Saturday, it could turn out be one of the most important presentations ever made. And it will be recorded on Youtube for posterity.
Well it couldn’t be a much more dramatic announcement. At Steorn.com, on successive multicolored screens in large letters moving against a swirling background we get this:

PROVING OVERUNITY

They are not holding anything back here; with this announcement in this way Steorn is going for high impact. After years trying to capture the attention of the scientific world and the public through unconventional media campaigns it may be hard to get people to take them seriously this time.
Overunity technology has of course been the goal of inventors and scientific dreamers for centuries. So far, however nothing has come along that has convinced the scientific or business communities. Extraordinary claims require extraordinary and convincing evidence and I’m sure Steorn realizes that. It will be very interesting to see the “proof” that is presented in this next experiment. Will this time be different and will Steorn deliver? If they don’t this would be an epic FAIL for the record books.
Steorn watchers may be wondering when Steorn’s next experiment will be happening. Actually it is going on right now. To see the excitement all you have to do is to go to camera 3 on Steorn’s website.
According to Sean McCarthy they are running a “soak test” on one of their Orbo devices in which they are measuring the strength of the magnetic domains over time. I think the intention is to run this Orbo this for seven days and show that over an extended period of time there is the magnets do not lose strength in an orbo configuration.
Sean also remarked recently in Steorn’s forum that they are using “optics” (optical encoders) for the timing of the electronics instead of reed switches in these devices which apparently are much less likely to fail.
It might be fun to sit and watch the orbo for a few days to see if anyone replaces it – or at least changes the battery.
In following the public reaction to Steorn I have noticed that lately the media attention to Steorn has died down to a whisper. When the demo launched in December there were a number of online articles (though none from major news outlets) commenting on Steorn’s coming back to life – and plenty of comments about the batteries in the orbos. There have been few articles however, on the recent public demonstrations where Steorn have attempted to prove their no-CEMF claim that is central to Orbo technology. Yes, there are plenty of conversations taking place on online discussion forums where Steorn supporters and detracters go head-to-head at times, but these forum battles hardly make a dent in the public consciousness. Perhaps no one cares, or perhaps major media outlets have written Steorn off long ago and don’t feel it’s necessary to continue to report on how discredited Steon has been over the years. Or maybe people are just scratching their heads trying to figure out whether what Steorn had demonstrated has any validity. And maybe from Steorn’s point of view, the media attention doesn’t matter much anyway. What they want to do is to get engineers and developers interested enough sign up to the SKDB and start making Orbo products. From comments Sean McCarthy has made, there has been lots of interest generated in this target community – and its likely that for competitive reasons potential product developers are not going be signalling to the world that they are getting involved with Steorn. I just find it interesting that there is not broader media attention to what could be the biggest technological story of the industrial age
Today on Steorn’s forum on their web site, CEO Sean McCarthy made this request.
Folks,
Please post any rational questions/concerns/comments on the second experiment in this thread. We hope that we were able to address several of the concerns expressed about the first experiment during the second one. Again we would like to keep this process as observer led as possible.
Please keep the posts on subject, polite and focused.
Anyone paying attention to the Irish company Steorn will be familiar with their claims of ‘free, clean and constant energy’ producing Orbo technology. Following a rather quiet two years the company has suddenly sprung into the public view again by holding an extensive public demonstration of their technology in Dublin, Ireland over a six week period ending on January 31.
It appears that little has been spared in the way of expenses to publicize and carry out this demonstration. We see high quality video presentations, an extensive and robust web site, a 24/7 staff on hand, lots of expensive testing equipment and numerous well made and elegant motors. The company, it seems, is hinging its future on what is currently happening in Dublin.
I am sure that most interested observers will have asked themselves, like me, “why are they doing this?”. Thinking over this question I see four possible reasons for their behavior.
1. They know full well they don’t have overunity technology and are putting on an elaborate scam, hoping at the end of the month they will be able to hoodwink lots of people into paying €419.00 for a year’s subscription to the SKDB.
2. They believe they have overunity technology, but are mistaken.
3. They are insane and the company has collective self-delusion.
4. They actually have overunity technology.
I want to deal with each of these possibilities in turn.
They are Lyingand they Know It
I suggest this is the most unlikely scenario for a number of reasons. Here are some.
a. It is unlikely that they would have been able to hold together as a company for so long without a key officer, whistleblowing employee or disgruntled investor coming forward to expose them.
b. If they were faking their technology it is very unlikely that they would have gone through the humiliating London failure. Would a scam company display products that didn’t work?
c. Three professional engineers with reputations to maintain would have had to go on camera and lie that they had tested Steorn’s technology and verify that it was overunity.
d. They would have to meddle with expensive testing equipment to make it display false readings in a live setting
e. They would be brazen enough to put on a six-week public demonstration, inviting anyone to come and test their devices with their own testing equipment (starting next Monday).
f. They would all have to live a lie. Remember, Steorn is a R&D company mainly made up of professionals who would have to put their careers, livelihoods and reputations in jeopardy. If the lie were detected the likelihood of any of them ever being able to be employed in their field again would be very low.
They Think They have Overunity Technology but They Have Made a Mistake
One point of view is that perhaps Steorn have found an interesting magnetic anomaly that looks to them like it might provide free energy – but they are mistaken and in the final analysis their Orbo devices don’t produce more energy than is input. Some thoughts:
a. If they were not certain that their devices were overunity, why go to the trouble of the current demonstration? The have opened themselves up to very critical and careful scrutiny and are inviting people to test them. Would it make sense to do this if they were in any doubt of their claim?
b. Same as point c. above. Why would professional engineers go on camera stating they measured overunity if they were in doubt?
c. Would they expect people to sign up to the SKDB in significant numbers if they were not convinced that they could demonstrate Orbo was OU technology beyond a reasonable doubt? We are still two weeks away from the end of the demo – and Steorn has promised that more validation exercises will become available. Sean McCarthy has mentioned lights on devices, calorimetry testing, magnetic domain testing, independent measuring and electrical energy in/out.
If they were not completely confident of their claims, could they expect to be able to convice the public of them?
They are Insane and Delusional — Out of Touch with Reality
Of course detecting insanity is not always easy and sometimes insanity is decided “in the eye of the beholder”, but one of the things that the public demonstration allows is for people to have an extended period of contact with the individuals who make up the company. They have been meeting and greeting the public, engaging in lectures and discussions. If there were signs of madness among the members – such as irrational or disturbing behavior, it would likely be fairly noticeable. From everything I have seen and learned, these people are acting like a normal company would be expected to act — albeit with an extraordinary claim.
They Have What They Claim: Orbo Technology is Overunity
Now this is certainly not a technical anlysis of Orbo technology. It’s more of review of the circumstantial evidence; but having gone through this process of elimination, and having seen the experiments presented at the demonstration to date, I personally have come to the conclusion that the most logical explanation for Steorn’s actions and activities is that they have developed an overunity technology and at this point I am inclined to agree with Sean McCarthy when he says that Orbo presents an opportunity to change everything.
If you think I am missing anything in this analysis, please feel free to comment!
Here is the video of yesterday’s presentation by Steorn broken up ito five sections. The first three clips comprise the demonstration/experiment section and the last two are of the very interesting question and answer session in which Sean McCarthy deals with quite a lot of probing and sometimes critical questions. McCarthy takes pains to try and explain what Steorn’s business model is and why the company is not creating generators, batteries or other commercial products.
In my opinion this was a much more complete and detailed presentation than the one Steorn carried out in December. In some ways this was a repeat of the earlier experiment with details added. Sean McCarthy said the company had gotten feedback with suggestions to improve on the first one.
We also seem to get to see the company in a more up-close-and-personal way – and are even introduced to Max, a key Steorn engineer (with a fascinating French/Irish accent!) who takes over at certain times during the experiment.
Since Steorn’s demo went live, there have been a number of people who have attempted to replicate their Orbo technology — many of whom have posted their efforts on the internet. Apparently Steorn has been paying attention to these replication efforts and actually have examined some of them quite carefully.
Yesterday they released a video response in which they explained why they believed that no one has yet managed to replicate an orbo device. The main problem they said they found was that the wave shapes displayed on replicators’ oscilloscope indicated that there was still CEMF in the systems – and that cancelling CEMF is essential in the Orbo transaction.
In a public experiment conducted in Dublin, Ireland today, Sean McCarthy, Steorn’s CEO compared an Orbo based device with a normal pulse motor. Each device looked similar in size and shape was hooked up to the same supply/switch connected to an oscilloscope.
In the demonstration McCarthy attempted to show by the traces on the scope that in the normal pulse motor, CEMF (counter electromotive force) was detected and in the Orbo system there was no CEMF. In the Orbo device Steorn claims that kinetic energy in the rotor is produced by torque generated by magnetic attraction between rotor magnets and stator coils and is unhindered by the opposing force that CEMF usually generates in a pulse motor.
McCarthy also attempted to show by use of a thermal camera that all that input electrical energy in the Orbo based system was released as heat and the rotation of the rotor was performing work over and above the input in electrical power — thus Steorn’s claim of Orbo being an overunity technology.
The experiment was followed by a fairly lengthy Q&A session in which members of the audience asked McCarthy about such things as the need for the battery in the current demo devices, Steorn’s business model and the potential usefulness of Orbo technology.
The demonstration was filmed and should be available via Steorn’s website before too long.
